Investigation of the Transfer Capability of the Nigerian 330 kV, 58-bus Power System Network using FACTS Devices

Over the years, Nigerian power system is beset with lingering problems, which include severe losses, as well very low transfer capability of transmission network to evacuate from generating stations load at distribution level. Presently, industry undergoing restructuring, especially in generation and systems. In view deregulation electricity marketing, traditional practices are changes address identified problems existing system. Specifically, better utilization improve on minimize cost one key focuses agenda. This work deals enhancement 58-bus, 330kV using FACTS (Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System) devices. devices used for controlling voltage, flow, reducing reactive damping oscillations high capability. Three devices; Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC), Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), Interline (IPFC) were investigate 58-bus network. NEPLAN was employed this model optimally placed weakest buses that found out through computation available (ATC) after continuation flow (CPF) simulation completed. MATLAB codes developed calculate without Comparing three devices, results obtained showed UPFC enhanced than TCSC IPFC.
